Six Signs Your Automobile Is Having Automatic Transmission Problems

Most vehicles are equipped with automatic transmissions these days because that’s what people prefer to drive. Generally, an automatic transmission needs to be serviced every 30,000 miles. This is the time when the fluid is changed and the system is checked for minor problems. If you ignore your transmission services, JTR Repair warns that you will end up with one or more of the following transmission problems.

1. Burning or Hot Odors

Hot or burning odors coming from underneath your car, truck, or utility vehicle are an indication that your transmission is overheating. This is usually caused by low transmission fluid. This being said, your transmission can also overheat if the fluid is dirty and old or if there is another problem.

2. Leaking Fluid

One of the things the transmission service does is help us determine if you are at risk of a transmission fluid leak. We can inspect the transmission hoses and replace any that are old, worn, or cracked. We can also check the seals and gaskets to make sure they are intact.

3. Problems With the Gears

Your transmission is definitely having problems if it isn’t shifting the gears correctly. It may skip gears or slip out of gear. It’s also having problems if you can’t get your automobile into gear. An unresponsive transmission needs to be serviced as soon as possible.

4. Shaking/Vibrating

When your vehicle shifts gears, the RPMs change and you feel and hear this. Aside from this, you shouldn’t feel anything else. If your vehicle shakes or vibrates throughout the gear cycle, this is definitely a sign that your transmission needs attention.

5. Strange Noises

You also shouldn’t hear any strange sounds coming from the transmission. These noises include a humming sound when your vehicle is in neutral, squealing sounds, or grinding sounds when the automatic transmission shifts through the gear cycle.

6. Check Engine Light

Finally, you may end up with the check engine warning on the dashboard if the transmission is going bad. A recent study confirmed that the check engine light is nearly 100 percent accurate in warning about problems in the engine. As such, it’s important that you have the reason for the check engine warning diagnosed as soon as possible.
