Signs My Engine Cannot Be Repaired and Must Be Replaced

We here at JTR Repair promise that we will always do our very best to keep your vehicle’s engine running efficiently and safely. For high-mileage automobiles, however, there will come a time when the engine can no longer be repaired. This is the point at which the engine must be replaced. We are going to list the signs that your engine needs to be replaced below.

Constant Knocking

If your engine knocks constantly, it’s possible that the rod bearings have worn out and the sound that you hear is your pistons knocking against the cylinder walls. As you can imagine, this can cause serious damage to the cylinder block. This is not an easy repair to make. Consequently, it’s often better to drop a new engine into the automobile. This is especially true if you break a rod. This will render your engine completely incapable of running.

Constant Overheating

If your car is overheating constantly, replacing the cooling system may be an option. Sometimes, however, an engine overheats all the time because the engine block is cracked. If this is the case with your automobile, the engine will need to be replaced. Other things that can cause the car to overheat all the time include a cracked head gasket and a cracked exhaust manifold.

Excess Exhaust

Speaking of exhaust, excess exhaust flowing out of the tailpipe is definitely a sign that your engine needs to be replaced. Exhaust is created when your engine burns away automotive fluid. In this case, the three fluids are generally coolant, diesel fuel or gasoline, or motor oil. It takes a serious hemorrhage in the engine for these fluids to create excess exhaust. In other words, if you see a ton of white, black, or blue exhaust pouring out of your tailpipe, your engine likely needs to be replaced.

Metal in the Oil

Your engine will eventually begin to degrade into the motor oil. When this happens, you will have metal shavings in the oil. As the contaminated oil continues to flow through the engine, it will damage it even further. In fact, your engine only has a few hours to live with metal in the oil.

Significant Power Loss

Finally, if you’ve noticed a significant power loss in your engine and it has hundreds of thousands of miles on it, it’s probably reached the end of its life. Eventually, the engine will simply give up.

As we said above, JTR Repair in Crawfordsville, IN, works tirelessly to ensure all of our customers’ automobiles are running as efficiently and safely as possible. Call us today if you suspect you need a new engine.
